The new fully electric urban SUV Kia EV2 introduces Kia’s electric vehicle lineup in Europe. It is the most compact electric vehicle Kia has produced to date. With this new model, Kia now enters the B-segment electric vehicle market, one of the largest segments in the European automotive market.

The EV2, designed and developed in Europe, combines bold design, everyday versatility, advanced higher-segment technology, extensive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and proven driving dynamics. Also produced in Europe, the Kia EV2 is intended to serve as the primary vehicle for families.

“The EV2 is one of the pillars of Kia’s electrification strategy in Europe,” said Sjoerd Knipping, President and CEO of Kia Europe. “By bringing cutting-edge electric vehicle technology to a Europe-built B-segment SUV, we are enabling broader access to electric mobility. EV2 is our second electric vehicle produced in Europe, reinforcing our commitment to developing responsible mobility solutions in the region.”

Flexible charging at home and public stations

The EV2 embodies Kia’s design philosophy, “Opposites United.” Its proportions are inspired by larger Kia electric vehicles, emphasizing a confident SUV stance.

Vertical daytime running lights and the new Star-map Signature Lighting create a strong family resemblance with other Kia EV models. The expressive shoulder line and robust wheel arches highlight structural strength.

The EV2 battery comes in 42.2 kWh or 61.0 kWh (long-range). The expected all-electric range is up to 317 km for the standard battery and up to 453 km for the long-range version (WLTP pending).

Both batteries operate on a 400 V architecture. Under optimal conditions, DC fast charging from 10% to 80% takes 29 minutes for the standard version and 30 minutes for the long-range model.

For the first time in Kia’s history, EV2 supports both 11 kW and 22 kW AC charging at launch. As AC infrastructure remains the most widespread in Europe, this allows flexible charging both at home and in public.

“EV2 proves that a smaller electric vehicle does not necessarily mean compromise,” said Pablo Martínez Masip, Vice President Product, Brand & Customer Experience at Kia Europe. “Our B-segment electric SUV offers charging capability, connectivity and ADAS features typically found in higher segments. With 11 kW and 22 kW AC charging, integrated EV Route Planner, and over-the-air updates, EV2 reflects customer expectations for cars to function within a complete digital ecosystem.”

Sliding and reclining seats enhance everyday usability, especially in the four-seat configuration. Rear legroom is increased, and moving seats forward expands luggage space to over 400 litres. Combined with the upright body design, EV2 offers space comparable to C-segment vehicles.

Advanced technology

EV2 features Kia’s latest three-screen Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), combining a 12.3-inch digital cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, and a 5.3-inch climate control display. The ccNC Lite version replicates layout and core functions at a more accessible price. The system supports OTA updates and Kia Upgrades.

Drivers benefit from a comprehensive ADAS package typically found in higher segments: Highway Driving Assist 2, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 2.0, Smart Cruise Control 2, Remote Smart Parking Assist Entry, Blind-spot View Monitor and Surround View Monitor.

EV2 is the first Kia model equipped with an In-Cabin Monitoring Unit (ICMU), integrated into the rearview mirror. It analyzes driver attentiveness and occupant positioning in real time to enhance safety and comply with the latest Euro NCAP protocols.

If the driver fails to respond, the system can initiate a Minimum Risk Manoeuvre, reducing speed and alerting other road users. The system does not store personal data and is designed solely for safety.

A recent update to the Kia app introduced 3D vehicle visualization, previously available on EV9, now extended to all EV models including EV2. It allows users to view their exact vehicle configuration digitally.

Tuned for European roads

Driving dynamics were a key focus. Suspension and handling were specifically tuned for European roads. Steering prioritizes smooth response and linear feedback. EV2 maintains stability during lane changes and dynamic manoeuvres.

Winter testing in Sweden confirmed stable performance on snow and ice. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) calibration and Snow Mode contribute to neutral handling in various conditions.

“Our goal with EV2 was not to maximize a single dynamic attribute, but to deliver balanced performance across European conditions,” said Alexandre Papapetropoulos, Director of Product & Pricing at Kia Europe.

Refined sound experience

To reduce road noise at high speeds, engineers implemented several solutions: specialized carpets, wheel arch insulation, and low-noise tyres from Hankook or Michelin. Acoustic laminated glass reduces wind noise in the GT-Line version.

Additional components suppress high-frequency electric drivetrain noise. Sound design elements were calibrated to enhance safety without compromising comfort. Pedestrian alerts and speed warnings are noticeable but not intrusive.

EV2 introduces Bold Motion Symphony, a new sound identity designed for a consistent and futuristic experience across Kia models.

Production in Europe

Production of EV2 began in Žilina, Slovakia, in 2025 following upgrades to the production line. The 42.2 kWh version is currently in production, while the 61.0 kWh long-range and GT-Line versions are scheduled for June 2026
