Used car market in Estonia in February: number of transactions declined, but BMW remains the leader
After a very strong start to the year, the used car market in Estonia cooled slightly in February. A total of 6,031 passenger cars changed owners in Estonia during the month. Compared with January, the number of transactions decreased by 651.
However, the year-on-year growth remains significant. Compared with February 2025, the number of transactions increased by as much as 57 percent, showing that the used car market in Estonia remains active.
BMW remains the leader of the used car market
Among car brands, BMW continues to lead the used car market in Estonia. In February, a total of 842 BMW passenger cars changed owners.
Volkswagen ranked second with 608 transactions, followed by Toyota in third place with 491 transactions.
The top three brands have remained unchanged for two months in a row. At the same time, the number of transactions for all three brands decreased slightly compared with January, indicating a mild cooling of the market.
Most popular used car models
Among individual models, competition remains tight between the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and Volkswagen Passat.
In February, the BMW 3 Series was the most popular model with 293 ownership transfers.
The BMW 5 Series ranked second with 262 transactions, while the Volkswagen Passat came third with 232 transactions.
These three models have remained at the top of the used car market for several months.
Škoda leads the segment of cars up to 10 years old
In the segment of cars up to 10 years old, Škoda rose to first place again in February. A total of 342 ownership transfers were made with Škoda passenger cars.
Toyota ranked second with 311 transactions and BMW third with 215 transactions.
Among individual models in this segment, the most popular was the Škoda Octavia with 129 transactions.
It was followed by the Toyota RAV4 with 86 transactions and the Toyota Corolla with 80 transactions.
The oldest car was a 1954 Pobeda
The oldest passenger car that changed owners in Estonia in February was a 1954 GAZ M20 Pobeda. This model is considered a classic Soviet-era vehicle valued by collectors.
The highest number of transactions involved cars from the year 2021, with a total of 500 ownership transfers. This shows that buyers prefer relatively newer used cars.
Cars from 2007 followed with 342 transactions and cars from 2019 with 326 transactions.
Used car imports to Estonia
In February, a total of 1,099 used passenger cars were imported into Estonia.
Most vehicles were imported from Germany, with 381 cars arriving from there. Finland ranked second with 167 cars and Latvia third with 109 cars.
The average age of imported used cars was 7.38 years, indicating that buyers prefer relatively newer vehicles.
Among imported cars, the most popular brands were BMW, Volvo and Mercedes Benz. The most imported models were the Volvo XC60, Volkswagen Passat and Volvo XC90.
Diesel clearly dominated by fuel type, with 498 diesel-powered cars imported.
Summary
Overall, February showed a slight cooling in the Estonian used car market compared with January. Nevertheless, the same brands and models remain at the top.
Among brands, BMW, Volkswagen and Toyota dominate the market. Among models, the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series and Volkswagen Passat remain the most popular.
