Neste charging stations now accept Mobilly payments: how much does an electric car driver save?
Neste is introducing Mobilly app payments at three charging stations in Estonia, working on the same terms in Latvia and Lithuania. We calculated how much cheaper it is to drive electric.
Neste is expanding the payment options at its public electric vehicle charging stations. Following a pilot project in Latvia, drivers can now also pay with the Mobilly app at Neste MY Renewable Charge stations in Estonia. For now, the new payment method is available at the Kadaka and Pääsküla stations in Tallinn and in Pärnu.
What changes for drivers
Mobilly adds to the options already available at these stations: payment by bank card, via the Neste app and with the Easy Charge feature. Mobilly also works at Neste charging stations in Latvia and Lithuania, and the same night tariffs and discounts offered in the Neste app apply across the Baltics. For drivers who often cross borders, this means one app for three countries.
"Our goal is to offer electric car drivers a simple and convenient charging experience," said Ilze Brauna, Head of EV Charging Services for Neste in the Baltics. Valdis Bergs, Chairman of the Board of Mobilly, added that the company is pleased to offer a convenient payment option across Neste's entire Baltic charging network.
Easy Charge starts charging automatically
In spring 2026, Neste introduced the Easy Charge feature in the Baltics and Finland. It identifies the vehicle by its MAC address, a unique digital fingerprint. Once the feature is activated in the Neste app, charging starts as soon as the cable is plugged in, with no further steps needed in the app or at the payment terminal.
Neste's charging network
Neste operates nearly 60 public charging stations in Finland and the Baltics. All of them use renewable energy with EECS certificates. The stations have high-power fast chargers, most are located along main roads near shops or fast food restaurants, and many have canopies for weather protection.
How much does driving electric save?
Using Autoportaal's fuel cost calculator, we calculated the annual cost for a car driven 20,000 km per year. The petrol car uses 8 l/100 km and the electric car 20 kWh/100 km. For an electric car this is a cautious, winter-level figure, and summer consumption is often lower. Electricity prices are based on spot prices over the past 12 months and include network fees, state charges and VAT.
| Fuel or charging method | Annual cost | Saving vs petrol |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol 95 (€1.95/l) | €3,120 | baseline |
| Diesel (€2.07/l) | €3,312 | €192 more |
| Home, spot price, cheapest hours of the day | €388 | €2,732 |
| Home, spot price, overnight 00:00 to 06:00 | €428 | €2,692 |
| Home, fixed plan 15 c/kWh | €863 | €2,257 |
| Home, fixed plan 20 c/kWh | €1,063 | €2,057 |
| Public fast charging only, 40 c/kWh | €1,600 | €1,520 |
Charging at home overnight, 100 km costs about €2, compared with €15.60 in a petrol car. Over a year, that adds up to a saving of nearly €2,700, or around €225 per month.
Even when an electric car is charged only at public fast chargers, driving costs half as much: €8 per 100 km. Mixed use is more common, though. If 80 percent of the energy is charged at home overnight and 20 percent at fast chargers on the road, the annual cost is about €660, a saving of nearly €2,460 compared with a petrol car.
With a fixed 15-cent plan, keep in mind that the real cost of home charging, including network fees and state charges, is about 21.6 c/kWh. That is why overnight charging at spot prices delivers the biggest saving.
What the calculation leaves out
Fuel is only part of the cost of running a car. Electric cars are often more expensive to buy, and in Estonia car tax also applies to electric cars. You can work out the annual tax with the car tax calculator and the monthly payment with the car lease calculator. Without a home charger, the price of public charging becomes decisive, so the saving depends heavily on where the car is charged.
Would an electric car pay off for you?
For a precise answer, enter your current car's registration number in the electric car comparison. The tool finds your car's fuel consumption and car tax automatically and compares them with the annual cost of an electric car. Mileage and prices can be adjusted.
