New all-electric Mazda CX-6e: up to 484 km of range and rich standard equipment
Mazda's newest all-electric model, the CX-6e, has arrived on the Estonian market, and the Estonian public will see this crossover — richly equipped with smart technologies — for the first time on 12 September in Tartu, at Motoshow, the country's biggest car show of the year.
Designed jointly by European and Japanese design teams, the new CX-6e builds on Mazda's existing design language and offers a newly conceived cabin centred on a 26-inch touchscreen, separate controls for rear passengers, and a wide range of advanced driver-assistance and safety systems fitted as standard.
The new model will be unveiled to the public on 12 September at 12:00 in the Motoshow Inchcape Motors area, in Hall C of the Tartu Exhibition Centre, where the indoor area will feature a car in the Takumi Plus trim level and the outdoor area will offer test drives in the Takumi trim.
Three driving modes, fast charging and dynamism
The mid-size, rear-wheel-drive Mazda CX-6e is powered by a 190 kW electric motor drawing energy from a 78 kWh battery. On a single charge, range reaches up to 484 kilometres according to the WLTP measurement cycle. The battery, which supports DC charging of up to 200 kW, takes 24 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent in suitable conditions.
The Mazda CX-6e driver can choose between three driving modes: Normal suits smooth everyday driving, Sport makes the acceleration response more immediate and the steering feel weightier, and in Individual mode the driver can separately configure the acceleration response, regenerative braking and steering feel to their own preference.
The CX-6e was designed in Europe in close collaboration with Mazda's Japanese design team. The new model's exterior is characterised by a dynamic silhouette, sculptural body surfaces, a visually floating D-pillar, and carefully shaped panels that give the car a sporty look and create a sense of motion even when standing still.
Alongside the body proportions and surface transitions, great attention was paid to aerodynamics: air channels integrated into the front guide airflow through the front of the car and over the bonnet, while the compact camera housings of the digital side mirrors included in the Takumi Plus equipment blend into the car's streamlined shape.
At Mazda's European research and design centre in Oberursel, the striking 21-inch wheels offered as an option for the CX-6e were also developed.
An interior inspired by Japanese art
The platform created for the electric car gave designers the opportunity to place the emphasis in the interior on spaciousness, ease of use and the well-being of both front and rear passengers. The cabin design draws on the Japanese principle of Ma, which values space and balance. A horizontal dashboard with an illuminated design element emphasises the width of the cabin, and a panoramic roof spanning the cabin lets in plenty of natural light.
With the materials, alongside appearance, importance was also placed on how they feel to the touch and how well they withstand everyday use. The seats are covered in Maztex — Mazda's animal-free alternative to leather, which is durable and easy to clean.
In the Takumi trim level, a warm beige or black Maztex interior finish can be chosen, while the Takumi Plus combines an amethyst tone with white Maztex. In creating the overall palette of colours, textures and lighting, inspiration was drawn from Japanese art, including the work of Hiroshi Senju.
A 26-inch touchscreen with voice and gesture control
A large head-up display with a customisable view brings speed, navigation instructions and safety warnings directly into the driver's field of vision. The 26-inch touchscreen on the dashboard can be split into two views so that the front passenger can conveniently use it too. The menus can be controlled by touch, by gesture, or via the steering-wheel buttons.
Voice control supporting nine languages allows, for example, adjusting the cabin temperature, opening windows or searching for a destination. With gestures, preset routes can be selected or favourite music started without touching the screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support is available for connecting a smartphone.
In addition to the three driving modes, the CX-6e has four special modes that are handy in everyday situations and adjust several of the car's functions with a single command. For example, the Pet Comfort Mode designed for pets keeps the cabin temperature steady when the driver leaves the car briefly. The Wash Mode designed for car washing switches off the automatic wiper mode, folds in the side mirrors and closes the windows.
Separate controls for rear passengers and a 23-speaker sound system
From a separate touchscreen created for the second row, rear passengers can adjust the climate settings independently of the driver, control the sunshade, and move the front passenger seat forward to give themselves more legroom.
The CX-6e sound system includes 23 speakers. Speakers placed in the headrests of the front seats allow the driver to make phone calls and listen to navigation instructions without disturbing the other occupants. At the same time, the front passenger can connect their own device via Bluetooth and listen to music of their choice.
The Takumi Plus equipment includes digital side mirrors and a digital rear-view mirror. Compared with conventional mirrors, the side-mirror cameras offer a 30 percent wider field of view and help to see better in low light and bad weather. The digital rear-view mirror preserves the rear view even when the boot is loaded to the roof.
Driver-assistance systems and nine airbags as standard
The standard equipment of all CX-6e models includes the Smart Brake Support braking-assistance system, the Blind Spot Monitoring blind-spot system, the Cruising & Traffic Support driving and traffic-jam assistant, Emergency Lane Keeping, and the radar-based Mazda Radar Cruise Control adaptive cruise control.
Child Presence Detection detects children in the rear seat and reminds the driver when opening the door not to leave a child unattended in the car. The standard equipment includes nine airbags, including a centre airbag located between the front seats.
With the Mazda6e & CX-6e app, the car's functions can be controlled remotely and a Bluetooth-based digital key can be shared with up to three users, who can then access the car with their own smartphone.
The Mazda Charging App provides access to public charging points across Europe and allows payment for charging in the driver's home-country currency.
