The third-generation Audi Q7 was presented in Estonia at the Noblessner Foundry, and Audi's largest-ever SUV, the Q9, arrives in December.

The Q7 has been Audi's large SUV for more than 20 years. Importer Al Mare Auto presented the new generation at the same venue where it launched the previous Q7 eleven years ago.

The new Q7 goes on sale with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine supported by MHEV plus mild hybrid technology.

Launch at the Noblessner Foundry

Audi customers, partners and car enthusiasts attended the Estonian launch of the new Q7. The evening featured the premiere of a piece written for the occasion by composer Erki Pärnoja, performed by the composer and musicians of the Nordic Symphony Orchestra. Singer Ines also performed.

"The Audi Q7 is a model of special significance for us, having won over Estonian customers for more than two decades. It is all the more symbolic that we can present the new generation at the same venue where we introduced the previous Audi Q7 eleven years ago," said Peeter Tiitson, CEO of Al Mare Auto.

The new Q7 in brief

Spec Value
Generation third
Engine 3.0 V6 TDI
Power 180 kW or 220 kW
Torque 500 Nm or 630 Nm
Mild hybrid MHEV plus, up to 18 kW boost
Gearbox 8-speed tiptronic
Drive quattro all-wheel drive
Seats 5, optionally 6 or 7

Power and torque figures are from Audi's official materials. The importer did not specify which engine versions will be offered in Estonia.

Six seats for the first time

The new Q7 has five seats as standard. A seven-seat version remains available as an option, and a six-seat layout is offered for the first time.

The V6 diesel is assisted by an electric compressor that sharpens throttle response at low revs. The MHEV plus system adds up to 18 kW when needed and allows electric-only driving when parking and at low speeds. A petrol engine and a plug-in hybrid will join the range later.

According to Audi, the Q7 is the world's first car whose headlights can project turn signals onto the road. The lights can also show lane guidance lines and warning symbols. Equipment includes automatically opening and closing doors and a large panoramic roof.

In Germany, the new Q7 starts at €87,900. Estonian prices may differ. We covered the new Q7's technology in detail in June: new Audi Q7 overview.

Audi Q9 arrives in Estonia in December

Larger than the Q7, the Q9 is Audi's biggest SUV ever. It is 5.31 metres long and 2.21 metres wide, with a 3.14-metre wheelbase. The Q9 has seven seats as standard, with an optional six-seat layout featuring two electrically adjustable individual seats in the second row.

The Q9 has Audi's largest panoramic roof to date, automatic doors and, according to Audi, the world's first three-dimensional curved digital OLED rear lights. It is also powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel with MHEV plus mild hybrid technology.

"Interest in the new flagship Audi Q9 among Estonian customers is high even before it reaches the market. While the Q7 has proven itself over the years as one of our most popular luxury SUVs, the Audi Q9 opens an entirely new chapter for Audi," said Tiitson.

Rivals and running costs

Among large premium SUVs, the Q7 competes mainly with the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. The Q9 targets buyers of the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. The BMW X5 entered a new generation this autumn and gained a fully electric version for the first time: BMW X5 and iX5.

Owners of a large diesel SUV should factor in Estonia's car tax and registration fee, which depend on the vehicle's weight and CO₂ emissions, among other things. You can calculate both with Autoportaal's car tax calculator. Large SUVs regularly feature among the cars with the highest registration fees: August top 10.

Plenty of used Q7s to choose from

Autoportaal lists Q7s from every generation so far, from 2006 cars costing a few thousand euros to nearly new previous-generation cars from dealers. With the new generation arriving, it is also worth watching prices of previous-generation stock cars.
